Setting Up Standalone Desktops
To set up a Standalone Desktop, follow these steps:
- Click 'Standalones' in the top menu
- Click 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
- A dialogue box will appear as shown below

Each field in this form is described below:
-
GPU Model
Select the GPU and type, if needed. Checking 'Display GPU enabled servers' filters the list to show only servers with GPUs available -
Datacentre / Server
Pick the datacentre region and server located nearest to you in Italy -
OS to clone from
A variety of Operating Systems are available.

When a template is marked 'Copy Required', it means the template is accessible but must first be copied to that server before use. Typically, only Windows operating systems may attract additional charges. -
Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
DaDesktop regularly refreshes OS templates, but should you encounter issues with the latest one, you might consider using an older version instead
-
Memory
The memory limit for the desktop. Keep in mind that you are constrained by the server's resources by default. Each server may impose different memory ceilings. Should you require higher limits, reach out via our Support Chat. -
Label
Provide an alias if you'd like a more user-friendly name for your standalone.
Cloning an OS Template
When picking and configuring an Operating System template, you have multiple choices.
You can opt for Windows or a range of Linux distributions including Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, and others.
You can select a pre-built template, typically identified by a version number like V51.
Alternatively, we now provide the option to construct fully current Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates employ an entirely separate build process, using Linux source materials together with a script that applies the required DaDesktop customisations. As a result, the template stays completely up-to-date, secure, and simplifies deployment and maintenance.
Building an OS Template
Once you've chosen the desired template, a pop-up like the one below will appear.
Select 'Start Building'
The standalone will then begin building. Note that the build might take more than 30 seconds, and if it seems stuck, just wait a bit longer.
Now the template is ready to use
With the template now built, you can adjust any settings as needed, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.
Your Standalone is now being created. This usually takes just a few moments, far less time than building the template.
Your new Standalone is now ready. In the example below, it's named 'julian-6iqm', though you could have assigned a more descriptive label if you wished.
Click 'Connect' to launch and establish a connection to your Standalone machine.
