Bare Metal Workstation Farm
In addition to its cloud-based offering, DaDesktop also gives you direct access to physical bare-metal desktops or servers.
This setup dedicates one physical machine per participant and has been successfully used in scenarios where learners need access to:
- a full server without virtualization—whether for performance or licensing reasons (e.g., ONAP, OpenStack)
- hardware that cannot be virtualized, such as certain GPUs, Mellanox cards when the course involves firmware changes, or other network equipment
Moreover, this solution can be integrated into an existing physical classroom in Italy with just minimal tweaks, allowing the trainer to prepare everything remotely—no need to travel.
The same Cloud Desktop environment that runs in the cloud can be deployed directly onto participants' physical machines.
Requirement for onsite deployment
To implement this, you'll need to purchase physical control cables (called ddnexus), which cost roughly $100 USD each for every desktop.
Give it a try yourself: just select Metal PC when setting up a Standalone or Fresh-start desktop.
