Hyper-V Server

UPDATED April 2024

For most applications, everything runs perfectly when set up in the Fresh Start machine on DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of applications may act differently after cloning, requiring a few extra steps to work correctly.

Fresh Start Resolution Notes
  1. Keep in mind this is a general guide for addressing the application’s behaviour within Fresh Start; the exact steps might differ depending on your configuration.

  2. Overview – Fix on Fresh Start as described below. Hyper-V encounters duplicate MAC addresses with the External switch when cloned from the Fresh Start machine, so we choose the second pre‑configured Intel network connection or remove the external switch in the Fresh Start machine before cloning (as explained in detail below).

Fixing the Issue

1. The Hyper-V Manager application is shown below. Right‑click and select the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box.

2. In the Virtual Switch Manager dialog below, select the ‘External’ switch as shown, then pick the Intel Pro/1000 network connection. Note that this option is only available with newer Windows 10 templates, version 71 and above. Press OK, save the configuration if prompted, and close the Hyper‑V Manager application.

3. Continue with any extra Fresh Start machine configuration needed. Once finished, shut down the machine from inside the VM and wait until it has fully stopped. Then clone the Fresh Start machine to the Trainer and Participant machines as required.

The Hyper‑V server should now run properly on both Trainer and Participant machines. Without this adjustment, participants might see one another’s machines instead of their own, because cloning the external network card results in duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when sourced from the Fresh Start machine.
